The Pretty Little Mouse is a sweet story that can be used to teach young children what sounds animals make. Ask older children, “do you think a mouse and a cat would get married in real life? why or why not?”
The Pretty Little Mouse
Once upon a time there was a little mouse who was very pretty. She was sweeping the floor at home when she saw something shiny on the floor. It was a gold coin. She picked it up and thought about what she could buy with the coin.
First she thought of candy, but she dismissed the idea because her teeth hurt. The she thought of cakes, but her tummy hurt. Finally she decided to buy a little bow for her tail. She went to the market and asked the salesman for a piece of his best red ribbon. She returned home and the next day put the bow on her tail and went out on the balcony.
A rooster passed by and asked her to marry him. The pretty little mouse asked him what sounds he made at night, and the rooster replied, “cock-a-doodle-doo”, and the mouse rejected him because she didn’t like the sound.
Next, a dog appeared and asked her to marry him. The little mouse asked him what sounds he made at night, and the dog replied, “woof, woof!” This sound scared the little mouse, so she decided to reject him too.
Next, a pig came and asked her to marry him. When the little mouse asked him what sounds he made at night, he replied, “oink oink!”, but she didn’t like this either, it seemed very ordinary.
The last animal who appeared was a white cat, who asked her to marry him. When she asked what sounds he made at night, the cat replied, “meow meow!”
The mouse liked this sound because it didn’t scare her, it was sweet and not annoying, and so she decided to marry the white cat.
After their wedding, they went together to their little house, and lived happily ever after.
